Telouet
Telouet is a detour most tourists skip, which is exactly why I like taking people there — an abandoned kasbah with painted ceilings still intact, and a mountain road that feels far from anywhere.
What stands out
Why this place stays with people
- Glaoui kasbah interior
- Original painted ceilings
- Tizi n'Tichka pass views
- Quiet, uncrowded stop
Best time to go
Spring through autumn. Snow can close the higher pass road in winter.
From the driver's seat
It adds time to a Marrakech–desert route, but it's one of the better detours I know for people who want something beyond the standard stops.
Visitor guide
Your guide to Telouet
How long to stay
About an hour.
Getting there
About 20 km off the Tizi n'Tichka road.
Worth seeing
- The painted and tiled rooms of the Glaoui kasbah
- The old caravan road down the Ounila Valley to Ait Ben Haddou
Good to know
- Much of the kasbah is in ruins, but the restored rooms are extraordinary.
- The road on to Ait Ben Haddou is narrow and slow, and one of the best drives in the country.
