Marrakech
Marrakech is home, and it's where I pick most people up. It's loud, busy and a lot at first, but it's also the best base in the country: the mountains, the desert road and the coast are all within reach.
Why this place stays with people
- Jemaa el-Fna square
- Souks of the medina
- Bahia Palace and Koutoubia
- Majorelle Garden
Spring and autumn are ideal. Summer afternoons are very hot — mornings and evenings are when the city is at its best.
Most routes on this site begin here. I can pick you up at the airport, your riad, or your hotel.
Your guide to Marrakech
Worth seeing
- Jemaa el-Fna as the evening starts
- The Bahia Palace and Ben Youssef Madrasa
- The Majorelle Garden and the Yves Saint Laurent museum
- The Saadian Tombs and the souks
Good to know
- Book Majorelle Garden tickets online in advance.
- If someone says the square or a street is closed, it usually isn't. Smile and keep walking.
- Agree a taxi fare before you get in, or ask for the meter.
- In summer, see things in the morning and rest through the midday heat.
Planning a visit to Marrakech
Can you pick me up at Marrakech airport?
Yes — airport, riad or hotel. Tell me your flight time and where you're staying and I'll be there.
What day trips from Marrakech do you do?
The most popular are the Ourika Valley and the High Atlas villages (about 3 hours of driving across the day), Essaouira on the coast (about 6 hours of driving there and back), and Imlil below Mount Toubkal. Tell me what you like and I'll suggest the right one.
Why hire a private driver instead of a group tour?
A private trip costs more than a seat on a shared minibus — I won't pretend otherwise. What you get is the van to yourselves, stops where you want them, your own pace, and one person you talk to from the first message to the last day.
Tell me when you're coming
Send your dates and who's travelling, and I'll suggest the best way to fit it into your trip.
